The Ruta Beggars combine bluegrass and early swing to create a timeless act filled with intricate vocal harmonies, fiery instrumentals, and plenty of fun. They have been praised for their creative yet tasteful arrangements and charming performances, winning Thomas Point’s band competition in 2019.

Best-of-friends since their inception, The Ruta Beggars are Micah Nicol (guitar), Sofia Chiarandini (fiddle), Ariel Wyner (mandolin), Trevin Nelson (banjo), and Noah Harrington (bass) who met while studying in Berklee College of Music’s American Roots Program.

This hot young band, featuring some of the rising stars in the bluegrass world, is led by 12-time IBMA bassist of the year Missy Raines. Doesn’t get much better!

Come enjoy great bluegrass and more, in the cool comfortable backroom at Cafe Amici. Table seating for all. Dinner is served before the show, and there’s bar service during the concert too.

Podunk Bluegrass Festival August 10-13

Aug 9-13 is Podunk Bluegrass week in Goshen, CT.  Starting Sunday, our awesome team of builders, carpenters, electricians and other roustabouts will be busy transforming the Goshen Fairgrounds into a four day bluegrass paradise.  In fact, the only four day bluegrass festival in Connecticut this year.

Stages will be built; sound systems and lighting tested; signage will be posted; vendors will arrive and setup; the hospitality kitchen will be built and stocked.

We have a tremendous music line up, awesome food and merchandise vendors, and lots to do for the kiddies.  Did we mention camping and pickin’ with your friends?

C’mon down and help us celebrate the best of bluegrass in CT.

Full festival tickets with or without camping, as well as day tickets are available here or at the gate.

Gates open Wed Aug 9 at 1pm for our campers.
Music starts at 1pm Thu Aug 10.

The CTBA Learner Loaner Program is having a USED GEAR DRIVE. We are in need of instrument gear donations to help our CT kids get started in bluegrass! Visit the CTBA booth at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival next month and drop off your used capos, guitar straps, tuners, strings, winders, picks, etc. Thank you for all your help as we build a traveling Bluegrass Box of Gear for the kids!

Bluegrass Camp at the Beautiful Silver Bay on Lake George Aug 20-25

All bluegrass instruments welcome.
No jamming experience necessary.
You will be jamming in the first class!
Friendly, encouraging, knowledgeable teaching.
Hands-on learning in large and small groups
Gentle tempos!  Mistakes expected!
Music/tab reading not needed or used.
Singing not required, but encouraged and taught.
Soloing not required! “Faking” solos taught.
Do you qualify?  It’s easier than you may think!
If you play guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, bass, or dobro… you can be part of a bluegrass jam. Only requirements – be able to:
Tune your instrument and
Change smoothly between G, C, D, and A (or the notes that work on bass and fiddle)

We are happy to announce our fifth annual Bluegrass Festival will once again be held at St. John’s on Saturday, August 26th.  Rain date will be Sunday, August 27th.  Join us earlier at 2 pm for a jam session with Austin Scelzo, President of the CT Bluegrass Association.  He will lead children and adults in an informal teaching event. Bluegrass in Heaven Sept 15-17

  • Located on the shores of Lake George, Silver Bay YMCA has a 700-acre waterfront campus that the festival will be spread throughout.
  • The Auditorium at Silver Bay was built in 1909 and will be one of the stages during the event. 
  • Festival attendees will be able to stay onsite in one of our many accommodations. Camping and RV attendees can utilize local RV and camping sites.
