How to Pick Up Chord Progressions in a Jam

Thursday, April 11⋅1:00 – 2:00pm

Want to jam on a tune or song you don’t know – and maybe never heard before? At a minimum, it’s helpful on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and other rhythm instruments to be able to pick up chord progressions. Austin will show you how.

Taught on guitar and mandolin specifically, but other instruments are welcome to attend.

If you play a melody instrument such as fiddle, knowing more about the chords will help you to back up the tune or song, to add double stops, and to improvise harmonically.

“I Can’t Find My Note!” Demystifying Bluegrass Harmony Vocals

Friday, April 12⋅4:00 – 5:00pm

Good three-part vocal harmony can be the most exciting part of bluegrass and folk music. Learn the basic terminology of bluegrass harmony singing (Lead, Tenor, Baritone), how to find your first note, how to “stay in your lane” and not sing what the person next to you is singing, and how to blend.

Always wanted to try this out? Here’s your chance, with a knowledgeable and supportive teacher! No requirements on your vocal experience or proficiency, with relaxed L2 pacing for the workshop.
